In my last post, I talked about how to manage time on a daily basis for a successful future. Although these tips have helped me stay on task, it’s important to remember that work isn’t everything. Leading a successful professional life can only be maintained through the balance of emotional health.
Let’s be real, all of us have those days where all of the minutes take hours. Everything goes wrong, no matter how hard we try. But guess what? We still have to get shit done. Just because it isn’t your day doesn’t mean that you get a pass to quit. Days like these are inevitable. They are going to happen. The only way we can rise above such an overwhelming day is to practice how to deal with it. A good friend of mine gave me this simple but very important reminder yesterday:
We create our own happiness.
The feeling of happiness can’t be purchased. Yes, it can be supplied by things like fun activities, good people, and coveted items. But happiness doesn’t exist in these things, it is simply our reaction to them. We choose to feel positivity based on our surroundings. Think about that for a moment. We create our own happiness. So why can’t we draw on that feeling when we really need it?
Well the truth is: We can. It just takes practice. Next time you have an overwhelming day, try and laugh at how terrible it is. Seriously! List out loud all of the things that are going wrong. I guarantee if it’s a bad enough, you won’t be able to stop laughing at how unfortunate your day is. Use that mindset to pull positivity when you need it most. That is creating happiness from nothing.
Things to remember: We all have bad days. Bad days don't give us a free pass to be shitty and upset. You can change your state of mind, if you really practice doing so. Create your own positive outlook on your situation, even if that means laughing at how terrible it is.
